2024 Penny's Hill Single Vineyard 'Lot 200' Shiraz

THE VINEYARD
This is the inaugural release from our Lot 200 vineyard, perched high above Gulf St Vincent on the northern edge of the Onkaparinga National Park. Sitting at around 190 metres above sea level, this striking site is defined by ancient geology and soils of river pebble, shale and red loam. Its elevated, exposed position makes it a challenging vineyard to farm, naturally producing small yields of intensely flavoured Shiraz. A visually spectacular site, Lot 200 is home to old-vine Shiraz that produces fruit with as much character and individuality as the vineyard itself.

WINEMAKING
Harvested on 11 March 2024, the small four-tonne parcel was cold crushed into a single open fermenter and spent 14 days on skins, including extended post-fermentation maceration to optimise natural tannin extraction. The wine was then pressed to tank before being transferred to second- and third-fill French oak puncheons, where it matured for 16 months before bottling in late 2025.

TASTING NOTE
A true reflection of the site, with expressive and complex aromas of dark plum, liquorice and olive tapenade, layered with savoury notes of undergrowth and subtle cedar spice. The palate is rich and textural, with concentrated dark fruit, impressive depth and fine, structured tannins that provide length and flow. Oak plays a restrained supporting role, allowing the distinctive character of the site to remain at the forefront.
