2024 Penny's Hill 'Single Vineyard' Grenache

THE VINEYARD
This is our second vintage of old-vine Grenache, sourced from a beautiful block we call 'The Springs' due to its location in the renowned subregion of Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale. The vineyard covers 2 hectares, with an elevation of 136m. The site is home to 75-year-old bush vine Grenache, deeply rooted in sandy soils typical of this esteemed subregion. This vineyard is sustainably certified and tendered by hand throughout the season.

WINEMAKING
The fruit was hand-picked on March 18th. It was open-fermented using 25% whole bunches and left on the skins for 10 days to achieve the optimum balance between flavour and tannin extraction. The wine was matured on lees in seasoned French Puncheons for 7 months prior to bottling in November 2024.

TASTING NOTE
Bright and lifted with floral notes coupled with redcurrants, strawberry, crushed raspberries, and underlying red licorice and white pepper. Sourced from old vines on sandy soils in Blewitt Springs, the wine is vibrant and pure with great texture and minerality, showcasing fine, silky tannins and great fruit length and tension.

"This is the second release of the Single Vineyard Grenache from Penny's Hill and it is everything as brilliant as the 2023 debut. From 76 year old dry grown bush vines in Blewitt Springs with an elevation of 136 metres, the vines sink their feet into deep sand. Handpicked and made with 25% whole bunches, it sees 7 months in seasoned French oak. Fabulously fragrant, an array of red cherries, squishy raspberries and strawberries is met by dried red rose petals and violets. Silky and svelte, red currants slide in with a cheeky Wagon Wheel presence - that chocolate and raspberry interplay is elite. Dangerously seductive fine spices wrap themselves around this neat parcel of delish with a moreish and elongated finish adding to its attractive persona. I absolutely love the cut of its jib - it's hard not to. Superb stuff! Drink to eight years."
